Qolcom sponsors university esports team

At Qolcom we’re fans of all things digital, and that includes gaming. To show our appreciation for UK e-sports we’ve had a fabulous kit made for the team at Portsmouth Paladins.

Advances in technology mean that gaming has evolved from a solo sport to a multi-million-pound industry with a huge following. It’s estimated that esports contribute more than £111.5m to our national GDP every year and tens of millions of people participate in, or follow, gaming events.

With the government announcing that “esports has the potential to develop as an area of real national strength in the UK” we felt it was time to play our part and support a local gaming community.

Ben Reynish, our Regional Sales Manager, and Simon Wilson, CTO at Aruba Networks, both have links to the University of Portsmouth so the student e-sports society there was a natural choice. Plus the world’s first esports coaching degree launched at the university last year.

Working with bespoke teamwear manufacturers Ravensport we crafted a high-quality set of t-shirts and hoodies for the Paladins players. Made in Britain, the tops have a contemporary look that sets the team apart at national competitions. Third in the British University Esports Championship (BUEC) last year, we hope the kit will spur the team on to greater heights this season.

“Qolcom’s generous sponsorship of our team kit has given us an identity ensuring that we are visible and developing an opportunity for others in the local area”.
